What does it mean to be an Ecumenical Church?
Many churches belong to just one denomination (e.g. Church of England) or are completely independent. Bar Hill Church is an ecumenical Church and is sponsored by four denominations:
• The Baptist Union
• The Church of England
• The Methodist Church
• The United Reformed Church.
In addition, we have covenant agreements with the Roman Catholic Church and the Society of Friends (Quakers). The Roman Catholics share in the ownership of our buildings, and hold their own service on Saturday evenings.
Our church services vary from week to week, so that our members experience the styles of worship met in our sponsoring denominations.
An agreement (‘The Covenant’) has been signed by all these denominations.
Local Advisory Group (LAG)
The Local Advisory Group (LAG) is a team made from representatives of our sponsoring denominations. It meets from time to time with the minister and members of the church leadership.
The purpose of the LAG is to provide advice and support to the minister and church.
